Kathmandu Valley commuters can now check where their bus is before stepping out the door. A new app called **KTM Public Transport shows live locations for around 1,200 GPS-enabled vehicles**, along with an estimated arrival time at the waiting point.

Sunita Dangol, acting mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and chairperson of the Federal Capital Urban Area Public Transport Council, launched the app during the council's third meeting.

Coverage will expand gradually, the council said. The same meeting cleared several related plans:

  • identifying bus stops and pick-and-drop points
  • preparing rules and contract models for night bus services
  • expanding early-morning and night public transport
  • setting up information systems at major bus stops and bus parks
  • building the legal framework for cashless fare payments

Chiribabu Maharjan, vice-chair of the council and mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, said the system should make bus travel more comfortable for passengers.
