Uber Arrives in Kathmandu
Uber has started ride-hailing services in Nepal, with operations beginning in Kathmandu Valley.
At its Nepal launch event, the company unveiled the service with the message "Namaste, Nepal. Your Uber has arrived," and put an electric vehicle on stage.
What Riders and Drivers Get
For riders, the app offers the usual features: booking through a phone, viewing the driver and route in advance, and paying in the app. Nothing unfamiliar here for anyone who has used a ride-hailing app before.
For drivers, Uber opens a new income option in a market local apps have run for years.
Impact on the Market
A global brand's entry is expected to raise the bar on safety, transparency and service quality in Nepal's ride-hailing space.
