The formula

On-road price = ex-showroom price + first-year vehicle tax (province, engine/motor size) + compulsory third-party insurance

Dealers in Nepal advertise ex-showroomprices. Before the vehicle is registered you also pay your province's annual vehicle tax and renewal charge at the Transport Management Office, and the NIA-tariff third-party insurance premium (identical at every insurer). Optional extras — comprehensive insurance, accessories — come on top. Every model page on this site shows the full breakdown for your province via its on-road price widget.

Frequently asked questions

What does on-road price mean in Nepal?

The on-road price is what it actually costs to put a vehicle on the road: the ex-showroom price (what dealers advertise) plus the first year's vehicle tax at your province's Transport Management Office and the compulsory third-party insurance premium. Some buyers also add accessories and a comprehensive insurance policy on top.

Why is the on-road price higher than the advertised price?

Advertised vehicle prices in Nepal are ex-showroom — they exclude the annual road tax (set by your province, by engine or motor size) and the compulsory NIA third-party insurance premium. Both are legally required before the vehicle can be registered and driven.

How much extra should I budget over the ex-showroom price?

For a typical 150cc bike in Bagmati, about Rs 7,000 extra in the first year (Rs 5,000 tax + Rs 300 renewal charge + ~Rs 1,700 insurance). For a 1500cc car, roughly Rs 34,000 (Rs 25,000 tax + Rs 500 charge + ~Rs 8,500 insurance). EVs pay much less tax, so their gap is smaller.

Is the on-road price the same in every province?

No — annual vehicle tax differs by province (Bagmati's rates are the highest-profile), while the third-party insurance tariff is national and identical everywhere. Our per-model pages let you pick your province for an exact figure.
