Indian electric two-wheeler market sees surge in buyer interest

Electric two-wheelers are gaining significant traction in India. Research into current market trends shows that 43 percent of two-wheeler buyers are now actively considering an electric model for their next purchase. This figure marks a notable rise from 30 percent in 2024.

Consumer resistance is also fading. The share of buyers who completely reject electric two-wheelers dropped from 38 percent in 2024 to 29 percent this year.

Market data reflects this shift in preference:

  • Electric two-wheelers captured 9.9 percent of total sales between April and August 2026, up from 5.5 percent in the 2023/24 fiscal year.
  • Electric scooters now account for 24.1 percent of all scooter sales, a jump from 16.8 percent.

Buyers are drawn to lower running and maintenance costs, along with modern digital features. However, some concerns remain regarding long-distance travel, battery durability, and performance on poor road conditions. Analysis of 1,600 current and potential riders across India highlights these changing habits.
