Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli and India-based Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) have signed a strategic agreement to produce premium car tyres in India. The partnership aims to tap into the growing Indian passenger car market.
Under the first phase of the deal, BKT will use its manufacturing facility in Bhuj, Gujarat, to produce up to 8,00,000 Pirelli-branded tyres by 2030. These tyres will be built to meet Pirelli’s specific technological and quality standards.
A potential second phase involves the creation of a 50:50 joint venture. This partnership would establish a new production plant dedicated to high-value car tyres for both the Pirelli and BKT brands, serving both domestic and international markets. The final agreement for this joint venture is yet to be signed.
Pirelli currently maintains a commercial presence in India, while BKT is known for its off-highway tyre production. This collaboration marks a significant expansion of Pirelli's manufacturing footprint in the region.
