Mahindra & Mahindra has hit a major production milestone at its Chakan plant in Maharashtra, where the 3-millionth vehicle to roll out was a BE 6 electric SUV, according to the company announcement cited by the report. The factory, which started operations in 2009, has grown into one of Mahindra’s key manufacturing hubs for both internal-combustion models and EVs.
Why this matters for Nepal
The BE 6 is already launched in Nepal, so this milestone has a direct link to our market as well. A local report said Mahindra introduced the BE 6 and XEV 9e at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo, confirming that these electric SUVs are included in Mahindra’s Nepal portfolio. Mahindra Nepal has also announced BE 6 pricing at Rs 57 lakh to Rs 68 lakh depending on variant, which puts it in the premium EV bracket for Nepali buyers.
For Nepali customers, the key point is supply confidence, not an immediate price revision. Higher output at Chakan can help Mahindra support deliveries of models that are sold in Nepal, especially if demand jumps during the festive buying season or after new showroom campaigns. Since Nepal imports most vehicles through India, production momentum there often shapes availability and waiting periods here.
What Mahindra said about the plant
Mahindra says Chakan now builds 19 models and more than 450 variants across seven assembly lines, with high levels of automation and digital manufacturing systems in use. The company also says more than half of the plant’s energy comes from renewable sources, while EV production runs on 100% renewable energy. The factory is described as water positive and certified for zero waste to landfill.
The company added that the plant exports vehicles to overseas markets such as South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, which highlights Chakan’s role as a global manufacturing hub as well as a domestic supply base. For Nepal, that matters because export-focused production usually indicates a mature platform with stronger parts supply and after-sales ecosystem support over time.
Mahindra’s BE 6 remains one of the more important new EVs to watch in Nepal because it combines a mainstream SUV body style with a premium electric drivetrain. If Mahindra can maintain production scale, Nepali buyers are more likely to see better availability than a major near-term change in pricing.
