Mahindra’s BaaS plan for XEV 9S, XEV 9e: what it could mean for Nepal

Mahindra has rolled out Battery-as-a-Service pricing for its BE 6, XEV 9S and XEV 9e SUVs in India, separating vehicle and battery finance to cut headline prices. Nepal does not have this scheme yet, but the move could shape future EV pricing and finance options here.

Mahindra has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme across the BE 6 SPORTEQ, XEV 9S and XEV 9e in India. Buyers there can now finance the vehicle and the battery separately, which lets Mahindra advertise a much lower upfront SUV price.

In Nepal, all three Electric Origin SUVs are still listed in conventional form. The **Mahindra BE 6 currently sits at Rs 57 lakh – Rs 68 lakh across three variants. The Mahindra XEV 9S is priced between Rs 60 lakh and Rs 86.50 lakh for its two battery packs. The more premium Mahindra XEV 9e ranges from Rs 69 lakh to Rs 95 lakh, above both the XEV 9S and BE 6, and its price band overlaps with the Mahindra XUV700 (Rs 74 lakh – Rs 113 lakh) and Scorpio N (Rs 82.50 lakh – Rs 129 lakh)**.

What Mahindra has changed in India

Under the expanded BaaS plan, Mahindra in India now quotes an ex-showroom BaaS entry price for BE 6 SPORTEQ at ₹ 11.45 lakh, XEV 9S at ₹ 12.65 lakh, and XEV 9e at ₹ 13.90 lakh. The battery cost no longer sits inside the vehicle price. It gets financed on its own, with a battery EMI starting around ₹ 6,975 per month, calculated on an assumed 60 km of daily usage plus a specific down payment and tenure.

Mahindra also quotes an effective battery usage cost of ₹ 3.75 per km. This is a finance calculation, not a pay-per-use rental. Actual EMI depends on battery capacity, down payment and loan tenure, and the quoted BaaS prices leave out the wall charger, road tax, insurance and other statutory costs. For now, the programme covers only personal-use vehicles in India.

Why Nepali buyers should pay attention

For Nepali customers, the point worth noting is simple: Mahindra is using battery financing to make its large electric SUVs look cheaper to buy up front. If a similar dual-loan BaaS structure ever arrives here, the headline prices of BE 6 (currently from Rs 57 lakh), XEV 9S (from Rs 60 lakh) and XEV 9e (from Rs 69 lakh) could be advertised much lower. Buyers would instead commit to a structured battery EMI on top.

Nepal today runs on standard vehicle loans. EVs like XUV400 EV (Rs 52.50 lakh), XEV 9S and XEV 9e are financed as one piece, battery included.

Nepal status: watching, not yet adopted

No Nepali distributor has announced BaaS pricing or battery-only finance for Mahindra's Electric Origin SUVs. The BE 6, XEV 9S and XEV 9e are available in Nepal at their full EV prices, with battery and vehicle costs bundled into standard loan products.

The Indian move matters here, but only at a distance. It shows how Mahindra could structure EV finance in export markets down the line. Until a Nepal-specific BaaS plan or tariff gets confirmed, owners here keep paying the listed ex-showroom prices and conventional EMIs on these high-value electric SUVs.
