Flood damage in Rasuwagadhi
A sudden flood from Tibet on Wednesday morning swept away more than 700 electric cars and over 100 containers in the Rasuwagadhi area. The vehicles were parked at the Rasuwagadhi Customs yard and nearby locations after being brought in ahead of the festive season.
Large losses for importers
Dealers estimate that more than 200 BYD vehicles were lost, while around 500 more vehicles from MG, Wuling, Omoda, Jaecoo, iCaur, BAIC, Arcfox, Foton, and Skywell were also carried away. The loss is being counted in billions of rupees.
Containers and other vehicles also swept away
Ram Hari Karki, president of the Nepal Himalaya Trans-Himalayan Commerce Association, said an estimated 200 to 250 containers carrying goods were washed away from the customs yard, along with more than 60 containers that had already cleared customs. The flood also swept away private cars, motorcycles, scooters, hydropower project pickups, trucks, and excavators in the area.
What it means for buyers
The damage may disrupt festive-season deliveries and could force importers to bring new stock through alternative routes.
