Nepal imported 5,057 passenger cars, jeeps, and vans during the month of Ashoj. This surge in volume follows the recent NADA Auto Show and NAIMA Mobility Expo, alongside preparations for Dashain and Tihar.
Government data shows these imports generated Rs 7.73 billion in revenue. The total value of the imported fleet reached Rs 9.47 billion.
Electric vehicles dominated the monthly intake:
- Electric vehicles: 3,802 units valued at Rs 8.35 billion, contributing Rs 4.87 billion in revenue.
- Petrol vehicles: 1,083 units worth Rs 790 million.
- Diesel vehicles: 84 units valued at Rs 185 million, generating Rs 540 million in revenue.
- Petrol-hybrid vehicles: 9 units worth Rs 37.8 million.
- Other categories: 137 units valued at Rs 115.9 million.
Importers increased stock levels to meet customer bookings made during the recent festival-season expos. The high volume of arrivals reflects a strong push to ensure vehicle availability for buyers during the peak festive period.
