NADA worried about impact of Tarai unrest on auto sector
The NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal has expressed serious concern over the recent unrest and violent incidents in Sunsari’s Kaptanganj and other Tarai districts. The association says the situation is creating an uneasy environment for local communities as well as businesses, including vehicle dealers and service providers.
NADA points out that Nepal is a country built on diversity, where people of different religions, languages, ethnicities and cultures live together. It stresses that *unity in diversity, mutual respect and tolerance* are key strengths of the nation and are needed for a stable market where consumers and businesses can plan confidently.
Peaceful protest vs. violence
According to NADA’s statement, the Constitution gives every citizen the right to express views, disagreements and demands through peaceful and democratic means. At the same time, the association clearly states that violence, vandalism and actions that disturb social harmony cannot be accepted.
For vehicle buyers and sellers, unrest can quickly affect:
- Daily mobility – disruption of road transport, difficulty reaching showrooms, workshops and finance offices.
- Industry and trade – delays in deliveries of new vehicles and spare parts, and challenges in after-sales service.
- Investment and jobs – hesitation from investors and banks, which can slow expansion of dealerships, workshops and charging infrastructure.
- Overall economy – lower consumer confidence, reduced spending on big-ticket items like cars and bikes.
NADA says such disturbances harm peace and security and also the broader business environment and national economy. It says the entire business community is worried.
Call for dialogue and government action
The association has requested all concerned groups to remain calm and seek quick solutions through legal, democratic processes and dialogue. It has appealed for problems to be addressed on the basis of mutual understanding, not street-level confrontation.
NADA has also urged the Government of Nepal and relevant agencies to:
- Ensure peace, security and protection of people and property.
- Restore normal daily life and a safe business climate as soon as possible.
Appeal to citizens
In its message, NADA calls on all Nepali citizens to play a positive role from their own positions to strengthen social harmony, national unity, mutual respect and tolerance. For the auto sector, a calm and predictable environment is essential so that buyers feel comfortable making long-term decisions on vehicles. Businesses need the same stability to keep investing in showrooms, workshops and EV infrastructure without fear of disruption.
