Subaru will stop selling internal combustion engine vehicles in Europe by the end of 2027. Starting in 2028, the brand will offer only electric vehicles in the region to comply with tightening European Union emission and safety regulations.
This transition marks the end of the brand's traditional boxer engine sales in the European market. The company plans to phase out its current petrol-powered models, including the Outback, Forester, Impreza, and Crosstrek, as existing stock is depleted. From 2028, the European product range will consist of three electric models: the Solterra, E-Outback, and Uncharted.

Developing new technologies to meet upcoming Euro 7 emission standards requires significant investment. Given the brand's limited market share in Europe, the manufacturer has decided that focusing exclusively on electric vehicles is more sustainable than upgrading its combustion engines. This strategic shift makes the company one of the first Japanese automakers to commit to a fully electric lineup in a specific regional market.
