SPG Automobiles, the Nepali distributor for Omoda, Jaecoo and iCar under China’s Chery Group, is lining up new electric models that range from budget city hatchbacks to premium range-extended SUVs.
EV prices: from under Rs 40 lakh to above Rs 1.8 crore
SPG currently sells three electric SUVs in Nepal, all sitting in the mid to upper price band:
- Omoda E5: priced around Rs 52–53 lakh according to the announcement, with single- and dual-tone options.
- iCaur V23: around Rs 54 lakh as per SPG’s figures.
- Jaecoo J6T: the most expensive of the trio, at about Rs 70 lakh.
Above these, SPG is preparing to bring in the iCaur V27 as a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV). According to the company, this model is expected to be priced above Rs 1.8 crore (over Rs 180 lakh), putting it into the premium EV bracket for Nepal.
At the other end of the lineup, SPG plans its first Chery QQ hatchback EV, with an expected price below Rs 40 lakh. This would sit among the more affordable pure electric cars in the market and directly target urban buyers looking for a compact, low-cost EV.
Hatchback-to-SUV strategy
According to SPG, the upcoming QQ electric hatchback will be unveiled at the next NAIMA Mobility Expo in Kathmandu. The brand wants to use this model to enter the mass-market EV segment, where price-sensitive buyers still have limited options.
With QQ at the entry level, the Omoda E5 and iCaur V23 cover the mid-range SUV segment. Jaecoo J6T and the future iCaur V27 EREV are aimed at buyers wanting more power, features and long-distance capability.
Battery and motor options
SPG’s current SUVs offer a spread of battery sizes and power outputs:
- Omoda E5 – 50.7 kWh battery, 99 kW motor: aimed at city use and occasional highway runs.
- iCaur V23 – 59.93 kWh battery, 100 kW motor: slightly larger pack for more range with similar power.
- Jaecoo J6T – 65.69 kWh battery, 135 kW motor: biggest battery and strongest motor for performance and longer drives.
These differences let buyers choose based on range needs, performance and budget instead of having to settle for a single configuration.
Growing network outside Kathmandu
To support sales, SPG says it is expanding dealerships, service centres and charging points beyond the Kathmandu Valley. New outlets and facilities are being added in cities such as Pokhara, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Narayanghat, Biratnagar and Birtamod.
For Nepali EV buyers, the mix of sub-Rs 40 lakh QQ hatchback, mid-priced electric SUVs and a high-end iCaur V27 EREV, backed by a wider service and charging network, means more choice across budgets and better support outside the capital.
