Online help when key vehicle papers go missing
Driving in Nepal without carrying your driving licence is a legal offence. Under Section 164(1)(na), fines start at Rs 500 for the first offence, Rs 1,000 for the second, and can reach Rs 1,500 from the third time onwards.

Nepal Police now provides an online Lost Document Information Management System (LDIMS) so you no longer need to visit a traffic police office just to file a lost-document request.
To apply:
- Open the LDIMS portal.
- Choose “Application related to lost documents”.
- Select the document type and fill required details.
- For a licence, enter licence number and issuing office.
- For a vehicle, enter full vehicle number, full name, mobile number and address (province, district, local level, ward).
- Upload scanned copies of any documents the system asks for.
- Submit the form.
After submission, the system generates an Application ID. Keep this ID safe; you will need it to check your application status under “Check Application”.
Validity and next steps
LDIMS usually processes applications within 72 hours. In many cases, the recommendation is ready earlier. Once issued, the online recommendation remains valid for 7 days.
Within these 7 days, visit the concerned Transport Management Office and complete the process to get your duplicate licence, bluebook or route permit. If you miss the 7‑day window, you can submit a fresh LDIMS application.

- Do not ignore lost papers. Start the official process as soon as you notice a document is missing.
- Use LDIMS from your phone or computer to avoid unnecessary travel and save time.
- Store the Application ID carefully or take a screenshot for easy status checks.
- Know where digital ends and paper begins. Services are moving to apps like Nagarik, but you must still carry physical documents when the law or current rules require them.
- Collect your duplicate quickly. Once LDIMS gives you a recommendation, finish the transport office work within its 7‑day validity.
