Nepal’s vehicle market saw a strong start to fiscal year 2083/84, with 987 cars, jeeps and vans imported in Saun. This is about 24% higher than the 797 units brought in the same month last year.
EVs take the lead
Electric vehicles now dominate four-wheeler inflows. In Saun, 689 EV units arrived, up from just 160 units a year ago — more than four times growth.

The customs figures show Rs 1.61 billion worth of electric cars were imported in the month, generating Rs 1.06 billion in government revenue. Last year, Saun EV imports were valued at Rs 41.88 crore.
Fuel and hybrid cars still present
Out of the total 987 units imported in Saun:
- 689 electric cars
- 219 petrol cars
- 56 diesel cars
- 23 plug-in hybrid cars
Overall, Nepal imported cars worth Rs 2.19 billion in Saun, from which the government collected Rs 2.44 billion in revenue.
Why imports jumped
New EV brands and models have entered Nepal ahead of the Naima Mobility Expo held in Saun and the **NADA Auto Show scheduled for Bhadra, pushing import volumes up.
