Private vehicles allowed
The Nagdhunga-Naubise Tunnel has opened to cars, jeeps and vans carrying up to nine passengers. The 2.688-km route is operating from 9 am to 6 pm for now.
Trial period rules
This is a trial run, so no toll is being collected from private vehicles at present. Drivers must keep headlights on, stay below 40 km/h, and avoid overtaking or stopping inside the tunnel.
Vehicles still barred
Motorcycles, scooters, three-wheelers, fuel tankers, and vehicles carrying explosives or other restricted goods are not allowed.
Travel time and future tolls
The tunnel cuts the Nagdhunga-Naubise journey from around 30 minutes to about five minutes. When regular toll collection starts, cars and vans will pay Rs 65 toward Kathmandu and Rs 60 when leaving Kathmandu.
