MG 07 electric liftback targets top spot in China’s four-door coupe segment

MG’s upcoming MG 07 electric liftback is already drawing strong early interest in China, a market Nepali buyers closely follow for the latest EVs.

Strong pre-sale response in China

• According to MG’s announcement, the MG 07 received over 21,000 pre-sale bookings within about 20 hours of opening bookings in China.
• The company has set a target to make MG 07 the top-selling model in China’s four-door coupe EV segment, competing directly with popular new-age electric sedans.
• The official market launch in China is planned for August 2026, and MG is ramping up production capacity ahead of that date.

MG has not confirmed any Nepal launch plan or expected price at this stage. Strong demand in China often influences how quickly right-hand drive markets like South Asia get new MG models.

Body style and dimensions

MG 07 is positioned as a sleek, practical family EV:

• Body type: 5-door electric liftback (four-door coupe style)
• Length: 4,886 mm
• Wheelbase: 2,825 mm

These dimensions put it close to the mid-size sedan class. The sloping roofline and large rear hatch are aimed at making luggage and cargo loading easier.

Key hardware and suspension tech

MG is highlighting a new integrated drive and suspension setup on the MG 07:

• An “18-in-1” integrated electric drive unit combining motor, inverter and gearbox into a single compact module (according to MG).
• MCDC electromagnetic damping system with AI road preview, which scans the road ahead and automatically adjusts the suspension to improve comfort and stability.

This type of active suspension is still rare in mass-market EVs. If the model is later offered in Nepal, this is likely to be one of its main talking points.

Cabin features and space

Inside, MG 07 focuses on tech and everyday practicality:

• Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P processor for the infotainment and vehicle systems.
• 15.6-inch central display as the main interface.
• Front trunk (frunk) capacity: 168 litres.
• Rear cargo space: 697 litres.
• Additional 30-litre cooled storage (fridge) in the cabin.

For Nepali buyers who travel with family and luggage, the mix of a large rear boot, usable frunk and a small built-in fridge is likely to be attractive if similar specs are carried over to export versions.

Two rear-wheel-drive EV variants

MG has announced two rear-wheel-drive powertrain options for the MG 07 in China:

• 400V RWD variant:
• Motor output: 176 kW (about 239 hp).
• Battery: 67 kWh semi-solid-state pack.
• Claimed CLTC range: around 610–650 km per full charge (MG’s figure, under the China CLTC test cycle).

• 800V high-performance RWD variant:
• Motor output: 235 kW (about 320 hp).
• Battery: CATL ternary lithium pack.
• Fast charging: 5C capability (according to MG), intended for very rapid DC charging.
• Claimed CLTC range up to 845 km.

The CLTC test cycle generally gives higher range numbers than more conservative cycles such as WLTP. Real-world range is likely to be lower.

Rivals and relevance for Nepal

MG 07 is being positioned against newer Chinese EV sedans such as Xiaomi SU7 and Xpeng Mona 03, all focused on long range, efficiency and advanced driver assistance.

Although no Nepal launch or price (in Rs lakh) has been announced for MG 07, Nepali EV buyers and importers will follow this model closely. If MG chooses to bring the MG 07 or a related export version to South Asia, its long claimed range, advanced suspension, and large cargo space could make it a strong option for long-distance EV users here.

For now, MG 07 remains a China-market story. It offers an early look at where MG’s next generation of electric cars is headed and what future MG EVs in Nepal might look like.
