The government has approved a 100% tax exemption on one vehicle bought for self-employment by families of those killed and people seriously injured in the Gen Z protest movement.
A notice from the Ministry of Finance, published in the Nepal Gazette, says eligible buyers can import selected vehicles without paying customs duty or other import taxes during the current fiscal year 2026/27.
- For petrol and diesel vehicles, the exemption applies up to a value of Rs 15 lakh.
- For electric vehicles, the ceiling is Rs 20 lakh.
The facility is available to: - Families of Gen Z protest martyrs - Individuals holding official ID cards confirming they were seriously or very seriously injured in the movement
The waiver does not cover snow vehicles, golf carts, racing cars, station wagons under customs heading 87.03, or specified unassembled vehicles.
This decision is part of a wider relief package. Electric ambulances and hearses are also being made tax-free on clean infrastructure fees.
