Changan’s Deepal has unveiled a refreshed Deepal S05 in China, and the update matters beyond its home market because the model is positioned as a global EV. For Nepal, that keeps it on the radar as a potential future import option if regional distributors decide to bring it in.
What’s new
The company has started pre-sales for the updated S05 in China, with an official launch scheduled for August 6. According to the announcement, the pre-sale range runs from 119,900 yuan to 151,900 yuan, which is roughly Rs 23 lakh to Rs 29 lakh before local taxes and duties.
The headline upgrade is LiDAR, paired with 26 high-perception sensors for advanced driver-assistance functions. The model also gets a new cabin layout, a larger 15.6-inch 2.5K central display, a 3nm automotive chip, and a suspension setup with adaptive damping.
Key specs
- Power: 272 hp rear motor on the pure electric version - 0-100 km/h: 6.28 seconds - Battery/range: 520 km or 620 km claimed range under CLTC - Charging: 30-80% in 15 minutes with 3C fast charging
The S05 also gains more practical storage, including a 492L rear trunk and a 159L front trunk.
What it means for Nepal
Deepal is still not a mainstream name in Nepal, so this is not an immediate launch story for local buyers. But the S05 is relevant because Nepal’s EV market often tracks models that first appear in China or India, especially when they offer longer range and stronger technology at aggressive pricing.
If the S05 reaches Nepal later through a regional importer, it would likely target buyers looking at compact electric SUVs above entry-level Chinese EVs but below premium European offerings. The final Nepal price would depend heavily on customs duty, VAT, and distributor margin, so a China price of around Rs 23 lakh to Rs 29 lakh could rise substantially by the time it lands in Kathmandu.
For Nepali buyers, the main takeaway is that the refreshed S05 now looks more competitive on range, charging speed and driver-assistance tech than many budget EVs, but its local availability remains unconfirmed.
