BYD has officially unveiled the second-generation Atto 1, marketed as the Seagull in its home market, at an event in Zhengzhou, China. The updated electric hatchback introduces significant changes to dimensions, interior space, and battery technology.
In the brand's current Nepal lineup, the existing Atto 1 is priced between Rs 30.75 lakh and Rs 34.80 lakh. This model sits below the BYD Dolphin, which starts at Rs 41.15 lakh, and the Atto 2 EV, which ranges from Rs 45.95 lakh to Rs 52 lakh. The brand also offers the M6, E6, and Atto 3 in the higher price segments.
Key Specifications and Upgrades
The new model is built on a larger platform, measuring 4,205 mm in length and 1,810 mm in width, with a height of 1,570 mm. The wheelbase has been extended to 2,650 mm. These changes allow for a five-seat configuration, replacing the four-seat layout of the previous generation. Storage capacity has also increased, with a 94-liter front trunk and a rear cargo area that expands to 1,380 liters when the seats are folded.
Performance is managed by a 95 kW electric motor producing 130 Nm of torque. The vehicle is now rear-wheel drive and features independent multi-link rear suspension. Buyers can choose between two battery capacities using second-generation Blade Battery technology:
- 30.1 kWh battery: Offers a CLTC-rated range of 320 km.
- 39.2 kWh battery: Offers a CLTC-rated range of 420 km.
Technology and Features
The cabin is equipped with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen running the DiLink 150 system, which includes DeepSeek AI integration. Comfort features include power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, a driver-seat massage function, 50W wireless phone charging, and an eight-speaker sound system.
Safety and driver assistance are supported by a reinforced body structure and up to six airbags. Higher-spec variants include the DiPilot 300 system, which uses LiDAR to provide advanced driving assistance on highways and city streets, including traffic-light recognition.
A notable addition is the flash-charging system available on the three variants equipped with the 39.2 kWh battery. This technology allows the battery to charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes.
Our own record on this
BYD Dolphin: 1 · BYD Atto 2 EV: 3 · BYD M6: 1. Each is a dated change we applied to a published ex-showroom price after checking it. A logged change may be a distributor's revision or our own correction coming into line with the official figure — the log says which way each one moved, and when, not why.
