BYD Seal 08 shows minimal damage in early crash report

Chinese social media has lit up after the new BYD Seal 08 electric sedan was involved in one of its first reported road accidents just weeks after launch. According to Chinese media and online automotive communities, the flagship sedan collided with an older Venucia D60 EV Plus, and the two cars came away with very different levels of damage.

In the images shared online, the Venucia’s front end is heavily crushed, with the bonnet deformed and serious damage around the motor compartment. By contrast, the Seal 08 reportedly shows only paint chipping and light scratching on the front left fender area. No major structural deformation is visible.

Witness comments circulating in China suggest that the Seal 08’s passenger cabin remained fully intact after the impact, and the front doors could still open and close normally. That has sparked praise online for the car’s build quality and safety engineering.

High-strength body and safety focus

According to BYD’s own technical information cited in Chinese reports, the Seal 08 uses a very high proportion of strong materials in its structure. The company claims the sedan’s body has around 86.3% high‑strength steel, a cage‑type body design, and hot‑formed steel rated up to 2000 MPa in key areas. This kind of structure is aimed at better managing crash forces and protecting the cabin.

The model also features BYD’s latest generation Blade battery technology, known for its focus on thermal safety. Earlier BYD crashes in China, including those involving the Qin L plug‑in hybrid, drew positive attention because the batteries reportedly did not catch fire. That has helped the brand build a reputation for safety-focused EV engineering.

Internationally, the related BYD Seal sedan (on which the Seal 08 is understood to be based) has already earned five-star safety ratings from Euro NCAP, C‑NCAP and other regional test programs, with strong scores for adult and child occupant protection. Those formal crash test results back up the real‑world impressions now circulating from China.

Price context for Nepali buyers

Chinese media reports indicate the Seal 08 is priced between about USD 28,944 and USD 35,265 in its home market. That roughly converts to around Rs 38–46 lakh before any local taxes or duties. Actual pricing would be higher if the model is ever officially imported into Nepal, due to customs, VAT and other charges.

The Seal 08 is positioned as a premium electric sedan under BYD’s expanding portfolio. While this specific variant has not yet been announced for Nepal, BYD already sells models like Atto 3 and Dolphin here, and the strong safety story around the Seal line will matter for buyers comparing future high‑end EV options.

For Nepali customers, this episode is a reminder that build quality, crash performance and battery safety are just as important as range and features when evaluating a new electric car. As BYD and other global EV makers continue to enter South Asian markets, safety credentials like five‑star crash ratings and strong body structures are likely to become key selling points.
