BYD has introduced its first locally manufactured car in Brazil, the Song Pro Super-Híbrido Flex Fuel plug‑in hybrid SUV, built at its new Camacari plant.
The SUV’s PHEV powertrain can run on petrol, ethanol and pure electric, with a claimed electric-only range of up to 120 km in the higher GS variant. The engine is tuned for Brazil’s flex-fuel norms, able to accept both petrol and high-ethanol blends.
BYD executives have stated that this Brazil-specific Song Pro DM‑i Flex could later be offered in India, where higher-ethanol petrol (E20 and beyond) is becoming standard. Any Indian launch would give BYD a flex-fuel hybrid in a key source market for Nepal.
In Nepal, BYD currently focuses on pure electric models imported mainly from China and India, and there is no announcement of the flex-fuel Song Pro for Nepal. However, if BYD India adopts this hybrid, Nepali buyers could eventually see more diverse BYD powertrain options and potential price benefits from regional production, especially for customers wanting long range with lower fuel costs on cross-country drives.
