BYD’s battery subsidiary FinDreams Battery has entered a new partnership to develop Blade Battery systems for industrial and mining rail locomotives in China. The cooperation agreement was signed on 7 September 2026 at BYD’s Pingshan headquarters in Shenzhen.

The project targets locomotives that work inside mines, factories and railway yards. These units handle shunting and on-site material movement, so they need strong, durable power packs rather than long-distance range.

Under the agreement, FinDreams Battery will take care of battery research, development and manufacturing. Changsha Fusheng Technology will handle system integration and application development, using its control and battery management know-how to fit the packs to rail-duty locomotives.

The partners have not shared the contract value, battery supply numbers or a clear timeline for commercial production. So buyers and operators still do not know when these locomotives will start regular work.

For context, BYD already uses Blade Battery packs in electric heavy-duty trucks. In June 2026, the company delivered 100 T31 electric dump trucks, each fitted with a 424 kWh Blade Battery. FinDreams Battery is described as China’s second-largest EV battery supplier, with an 18% market share and 72 GWh of batteries installed in the country between January and July 2026, while CATL leads with 186 GWh and a 46% share.

For Nepali buyers, this move is a sign that Blade Battery technology is being pushed into tougher industrial duty, which could later support more reliable heavy EVs and fleets here, even if there is no Nepal-specific rail or truck plan announced yet. In short, BYD is steadily widening real-world use of its Blade packs beyond passenger cars.
