BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao Formula S: What Nepal Should Know

Chinese EV giant BYD’s premium sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao has had its Formula S electric liftback and Formula S GT shooting brake (wagon) approved in China with headline ranges of up to 900 km (CLTC), according to regulatory filings.

Fang Cheng Bao currently sells only in China, but its products are exported under BYD and Denza badges in overseas markets. Industry reports indicate that the Formula S family is expected to launch in China in Q3 2026 and may go abroad wearing the Denza logo, similar to the Denza Z sports EV shown in the UK.

For Nepal, where BYD already sells electric models like the Atto 3 and Seal, this new platform hints at what future long-range BYD/Denza imports could look like.

Key Specs: Battery, Power and Range

  • Formula S liftback (RWD, standard range)
  • Battery: 76.744 kWh LFP
  • Power: 245 kW (329 hp) single rear motor
  • Claimed range: 720 km (CLTC)
  • Formula S liftback (RWD, long range)
  • Battery: 92.093 kWh LFP
  • Power: 300 kW (402 hp) rear motor
  • Claimed range: 830–900 km (CLTC)
  • Formula S liftback (AWD, performance)
  • Dual motor setup with up to 490 kW (657 hp) (range figures not yet listed by regulators).
  • Formula S GT wagon (shooting brake)
  • Battery: 92.093 kWh LFP as standard
  • RWD power: 300 kW, 800–850 km claimed range
  • AWD power: 490 kW, up to 730 km claimed range

Both body styles are large premium cars, around 5.0 m long with a 2,960 mm wheelbase, and feature roof-mounted LiDAR for BYD’s latest DiPilot assisted driving.

Possible Impact on Nepali EV Market

There is no official announcement for Nepal, and Fang Cheng Bao is not sold as a brand here. However:

  • BYD already has a presence in Nepal with multiple EVs, and its export strategy often repackages Fang Cheng Bao models as BYD or Denza.
  • If a Denza-badged version of the Formula S family arrives in South Asia, it would be a candidate for future import by Nepali distributors targeting the premium EV segment.

Given Chinese estimates of a starting price around 380,000–450,000 yuan, equivalent to roughly Rs 75–90 lakh before Nepali duties and dealer margins, any such model would sit well above current mainstream EVs and compete more with luxury imports.

What It Would Mean for Nepali Buyers

If a related BYD or Denza model based on the Formula S platform reaches Nepal:

  • Range expectations would jump dramatically — even after adjusting CLTC to real-world use, a usable highway range above 550–600 km per charge is plausible.
  • Large LFP batteries and flash charging capability could make long cross-country trips towards the Far West or Eastern Terai feasible with fewer stops.
  • The price bracket would limit sales to a niche, but it would pressure rivals (including upcoming Indian and Chinese EVs) to improve range and charging speeds.

In short, while the Formula S and Formula S GT are not yet confirmed for Nepal, their technology is directly relevant: future BYD/Denza EVs sold here are likely to share long-range LFP batteries, high power outputs and advanced driver-assist systems, gradually lifting the performance bar for the Nepali EV market.
