BYD has crossed 10,000 Flash Charging stations across China in about six months after launching its new ultra-fast charging strategy in March 2026. The company has publicly set a target of 20,000 stations by the end of 2026, including 18,000 urban and 2,000 highway sites.
What these mega-chargers can do
- Each new BYD Flash Charging pile is rated at up to 1,500 kW from a single connector.
- BYD claims compatible EVs can charge from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes and 10% to 97% in 9 minutes under its test conditions.
- The system uses liquid-cooled cables mounted on overhead rails, with the charging gun weighing around 2 kg for easier handling.
- Stations integrate local battery energy storage to smooth out grid load and use the GB/T DC interface with support for dual-gun DC charging.
BYD’s Second-Generation Blade Battery (LFP chemistry) is designed to work with this Flash Charging setup. The company also claims a 20% to 97% charge at -30°C in about 12 minutes, roughly three minutes slower than in standard conditions.
Sinopec fuel stations turning into charging hubs
China’s state oil giant Sinopec, which operates over 30,000 service stations, has signed an industrial and capital cooperation agreement with BYD. Selected Sinopec fuel stations are being fitted with Flash Charging equipment alongside petrol and diesel, and in some cases old fuel pumps are being replaced entirely by charging bays.
BYD plans 6,000 Flash Charging stations outside China, including 3,000 in Europe, in the coming years.
What this could mean for Nepal
BYD already sells EVs in Nepal through official dealers, but no Flash Charging stations or 1,500 kW chargers have been announced for Nepal. Nepal still relies on slower DC fast chargers, and most imports follow Indian and Chinese charging trends.
For Nepali buyers, the rapid build-out in China suggests that future BYD EVs sold here could eventually support much faster charging if regional infrastructure and standards catch up. However, there is currently no confirmed plan or timeline for BYD Flash Charging deployment in Nepal, so this remains a long-term possibility rather than an imminent upgrade.
