About the Skoda Kushaq

Skoda Kushaq, as sold in Nepal, positions itself as an urban-friendly, family-sized SUV with European engineering, compact exterior dimensions and a surprisingly premium feature set at the top end. In its 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo AT DSG flagship form, it combines a strong turbo‑petrol engine, dual‑clutch automatic and a fully loaded cabin with extensive safety tech, targeting buyers who want something more distinctive and refined than the mainstream compact SUVs on Nepali roads.

Editorial overview compiled from official specs and Nepali/Indian auto sources · as of 17 Aug 2026.

Design & styling

The Kushaq’s design is very much in line with Skoda’s global SUV language, with a sharply cut front end, signature grille and split headlamp arrangement that give it a more European look than many rivals. On the top 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo AT DSG variant, this is amplified by the darker cosmetic package, sportier alloy wheels and Monte Carlo‑specific red‑and‑black interior theme, elements that are unique to the Monte Carlo trims and clearly aimed at buyers who value visual character. The compact footprint, with length around 4.2 metres and a relatively long wheelbase for its size, helps it look well planted without being unwieldy on Kathmandu’s tighter streets, while the SUV stance and useful ground clearance are well suited to rougher provincial and hill roads. Overall, our editorial view is that the Kushaq trades outright flash for a more mature, sporty and premium look that appeals to upwardly mobile urban families and professionals.

Performance & drivetrain

Nepal gets the Kushaq with two turbo‑petrol engines: a smaller 1.0 TSI and the larger 1.5 TSI, both driving the front wheels, with manual and automatic transmission options depending on variant. The flagship 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo AT DSG pairs a 1.5‑litre turbo‑petrol engine with active cylinder technology to a 7‑speed dual‑clutch automatic gearbox; this powertrain is widely noted for offering strong performance for the class while also being relatively efficient for its output, making it attractive for buyers who travel frequently on highways like Kathmandu–Pokhara or East‑West corridors. The 1.5 TSI produces power and torque figures that place it at the upper end of the compact SUV segment, and the DSG’s quick, seamless shifts are expected to suit both city commuting and enthusiastic driving on twisty hill sections. Across the range, the Kushaq’s suspension layout with a McPherson front setup and a torsion‑beam rear is tuned to balance predictable handling with enough compliance for broken city surfaces and rural roads, which should feel reassuring for Nepal‑specific usage rather than outright soft.

Interior, features & practicality

Inside, the Kushaq offers a five‑seat layout with a focus on usable space; its relatively long wheelbase for a compact SUV helps free up good legroom in both rows, while the boot is sized to comfortably take typical family luggage or weekly shopping, even if it is not class‑leading. On the 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo AT DSG, the equipment list is particularly rich, with features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control with rear vents, ventilated front seats, cruise control, electric sunroof and branded audio system, many of which are limited to the top or near‑top variants. This top variant also gets a sportier cabin ambience with red‑and‑black upholstery, ambient lighting and cosmetic details that set it apart from the more sober lower trims, reinforcing its aspirational positioning. Safety equipment is a strong talking point: six airbags, electronic stability control, hill‑hold assist, ISOFIX child‑seat mounts, rear camera and parking sensors, plus electronic aids like traction control and differential lock functions are present on the higher variants including the Monte Carlo, giving the Kushaq a more comprehensive safety net than some rivals commonly seen in Nepal. From a practicality standpoint, the cabin storage, cupholders and charging options, along with the elevated driving position, align well with typical Nepali family use, from city school runs to occasional long trips.

Ownership in Nepal — price positioning, running cost & who it suits

The Kushaq’s Nepali variant line‑up and ex‑showroom pricing place it firmly in the premium end of the compact SUV segment, with a clear ladder from more accessible to more aspirational trims. The 1.0 TSI Classic MT starts at Rs 54,90,000, followed by the 1.0 TSI Ambition MT at Rs 60,90,000 and 1.0 TSI Ambition AT at Rs 65,90,000, giving buyers a choice of entry‑level and mid‑spec equipment with manual or automatic convenience. Sportier and more feature‑rich 1.0‑litre trims sit above: 1.0 TSI Sportsline MT at Rs 65,90,000, 1.0 TSI Signature MT at Rs 68,90,000, 1.0 TSI Sportsline AT at Rs 70,90,000, 1.0 TSI Signature AT at Rs 73,90,000, and 1.0 TSI Monte Carlo MT and AT at Rs 74,90,000 and Rs 82,90,000 respectively, covering the spectrum for buyers who want style and features but are content with the smaller engine. The 1.5‑litre TSI range builds on this with more performance: 1.5 TSI Ambition MT at Rs 72,90,000 and 1.5 TSI Ambition AT DSG at Rs 77,90,000 serve as more powerful mid‑range options; higher up, 1.5 TSI Signature MT at Rs 82,90,000, 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo MT at Rs 86,90,000, 1.5 TSI Signature AT DSG at Rs 87,90,000, and the range‑topping 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo AT DSG at Rs 92,90,000 target buyers who are willing to pay a clear premium for performance and equipment. Running costs should be moderate for a turbo‑petrol SUV of this class: fuel quality in major Nepali cities is generally sufficient for modern TSI engines, and while service and parts are pricier than mainstream Japanese or Korean rivals, they are aligned with the Kushaq’s more premium positioning and European brand image. In our view, the Kushaq suits urban and semi‑urban buyers who want an SUV that feels a step up from the common compact crossovers in terms of design, driving character and safety, and who are comfortable paying extra for that distinction rather than simply chasing the lowest possible purchase price.

Verdict

As sold in Nepal, the Skoda Kushaq stands out as a compact SUV that prioritises European engineering, safety and a more sophisticated driving and ownership experience over sheer size or bargain pricing. The top 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo AT DSG variant in particular delivers a combination of strong turbo‑petrol performance, quick dual‑clutch gearbox and an extensive feature list that should satisfy buyers who want their everyday family SUV to feel genuinely premium, with the lower 1.0‑litre trims providing more attainable access to the same basic package. In our editorial assessment, the Kushaq is best viewed not as a value‑leader but as an upgrade choice in the Nepali market, appealing to those who care about design, technology and safety and are prepared to invest accordingly, while accepting that rivals may offer more metal for less money but not necessarily the same overall sense of refinement and character.

🇳🇵 NEPAL-SPECIFIC TALK — PRICE, SERVICE, RESALE, ROADS
  • Ex‑showroom prices in Nepal are in the ~Rs 52–80+ lakh range for pre‑facelift models, and the 2026 facelift starts around Rs 5.79 million, making Kushaq a relatively premium compact SUV choice in Nepal
  • Ground clearance is around 188 mm for Nepal‑sold variants, considered sufficient for Kathmandu streets and highways but buyers still compare it with higher‑riding SUVs for rough rural roads
  • Škoda Nepal highlights a 5‑star Global NCAP safety rating and offers a Promise of 12 maintenance program (Rs 12,000 annually, 12 service locations), which addresses concerns about service cost and reach outside Kathmandu
  • Local reviews note good ride quality and handling on Nepali roads, with turbo engines coping well with gradients common on highway routes
  • Resale is discussed cautiously; some Nepali buyers see Kushaq as more of a "niche" or enthusiast choice and expect lower resale than mass‑market Korean/Japanese SUVs, though hard Nepal resale data is still limited
  • 188 mm ground clearance praised for handling rough & hilly roads
  • 5-year warranty not offered—only 2 years in Nepal
  • price range about Rs 52.40 lakh to Rs 79.90 lakh depending on variant

Kushaq is an absolutely magnificent car. A car which is fun to drive and so good to handle.

Mileage is main Issue.... This is my 1st and best car with worst experience of Mileage of 10.0kmpl average of 3000km...

Rather than Massage seats in the back, they should have given Ventilated Seats... Skoda has missed big time on ADAS and 360 degree Camera.

I bought new 20 days back am getting mileage of 9.8 km. Most people are saying we must wait at least 2 thousand km to get a good mileage further.

Still no e-handbreak. Come on!!!

Among compact SUVs in Nepal, I’d look at Skoda Kushaq or Hyundai i20 crossover if you want something more driver‑focused than the usual Japanese options.

Mileage varies, but owners report around 10 km/l in the city and up to 20 km/l on the highway.
Yes, some users have reported clutch issues and AC problems.
Given local reviews, the recent facelift launch, and steady sales across variants and price points, Kushaq is a niche but successful model in Nepal, not a flop, with growing demand among buyers who value safety and performance.
Kushaq is slightly narrower with a smaller boot than the Hyundai Creta, but the wheelbase and interior space are similar, so in daily use in Nepal it feels comparable rather than bigger or smaller.
If safety, solid build, turbo-petrol performance and a European feel matter to you, the Kushaq is generally worth buying, even with its higher price and somewhat uncertain resale value compared to Korean and Japanese rivals.
Compulsory third-party insurance for the Skoda Kushaq depends on the trim's engine size, because the NIA tariff is banded: रु 7,355 per year for the 1.0 TSI Classic MT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Ambition MT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Classic+ AT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Ambition AT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Sportsline MT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Signature MT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Sportsline AT (999cc) and 1.5 TSI Ambition MT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Sportline AT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Monte Carlo MT (999cc) and 1.0 TSI Monte Carlo AT (999cc) and 1.5 TSI Signature MT (999cc) and 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo MT (999cc) — Below 1000 cc; रु 8,485 per year for the 1.5 TSI Ambition AT DSG (1498cc) and 1.5 TSI Signature AT DSG (1498cc) and 1.5 TSI Monte Carlo AT DSG (1498cc) — 1000 – 1600 cc. The tariff is fixed and identical at every insurer, VAT included. A comprehensive policy on the base variant (declared value Rs 54.9 lakh) is roughly रु 72,316 per year before no-claim discounts.
With banks financing up to 60% of the price (NRB cap) at an indicative 7.5% p.a. over 60 months, the Skoda Kushaq base variant (Rs 54.9 lakh) works out to roughly रु 66,005 per month after a 40% down payment. Actual rates vary by bank (Asar 2083 (June/July 2026)).
