Thee GO, one of Nepal’s key electric vehicle charging providers, has announced a new project with Gham Power to add a solar-powered battery energy storage system (BESS) to its Thee GO Charge Point in Itahari, Sunsari.
According to the announcement, the system will store solar energy in batteries and use that stored power to charge EVs. It will not depend only on the national grid.
What Thee GO and Gham Power are building
- The project will combine solar panels with a battery energy storage system at Thee GO’s existing charge point in Itahari.
- In the day, extra solar electricity will be stored in the batteries.
- Later, when EVs plug in or when grid demand is high, the charger will use this stored solar power to supply cleaner energy.
The Itahari site is already a major fast-charging hub, with DC chargers up to 80 kW and 120 kW listed at the location. That makes it suitable for highway and city EV users.
The new BESS is expected to make that power more reliable and greener by shifting part of the load to solar and storage.

For EV buyers and existing users, this project matters for several reasons:

According to statements from both companies, the Itahari solar-plus-storage charger is intended to act as a model for future solar-powered EV charging stations across Nepal. If successful, similar systems could appear at more Thee GO sites.
Nepali EV drivers would then get wider access to cleaner and more dependable fast charging.
