Tata Motors’ new Curvv SUV-coupe is already on sale in India in petrol, diesel and electric forms, and the Curvv.ev has officially arrived in Nepal as a premium electric crossover. According to Indian media reports, a camouflaged Curvv prototype has now been spotted testing with a new powertrain, widely believed to be either CNG or flex-fuel (ethanol-blend) compatible.

What’s happening in India

  • India’s government is pushing carmakers towards higher ethanol blends, and a handful of flex-fuel two-wheelers are already on sale.
  • In passenger cars, only Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR Bioflex is currently retailing as a flex-fuel model, with very limited sales.
  • Tata has publicly said the Curvv’s design is "protected" for CNG, and that a CNG version is under active consideration, though not yet confirmed for launch.
  • Recent spy shots of Curvv test mules have triggered speculation that Tata is now evaluating both CNG and flex-fuel options to boost sales of the ICE Curvv, whose demand has softened after a strong start.

At present, Indian listings show the Curvv with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (in two tunes) and 1.5-litre diesel engines, but no CNG or flex-fuel versions are officially on sale yet.

Curvv in Nepal: Current status

In Nepal, Sipradi Trading has already launched the Tata Curvv.ev as Tata’s flagship electric SUV-coupe. The model is offered only in the top Empowered +A variant, priced at around Rs 56.99 lakh, and uses a 55 kWh battery with a claimed usable range of roughly 400–425 km per charge on Nepali roads.

The Curvv.ev’s long wheelbase, 193 mm ground clearance and Level-2 ADAS package make it one of the more sophisticated EVs in its price bracket here, aimed at buyers who want a stylish urban crossover that can also cope with rougher sections of the highway.

Could CNG or flex-fuel Curvv come to Nepal?

- CNG Curvv: A factory CNG Curvv, if launched in India with Tata’s dual-cylinder CNG layout, would offer lower fuel costs and retain reasonable boot space. In principle, this could be attractive for Nepali fleet operators, ride-hailing drivers and high-mileage private users. However, Nepal currently has very limited CNG infrastructure, focused around a few pilot projects. Without a clear nationwide CNG network, the chances of a Curvv CNG variant being officially introduced soon are modest. Any import would likely remain niche and urban-centric unless fuel supply expands.

  • Flex-fuel Curvv: A flex-fuel Curvv able to run on higher ethanol blends (E20–E85) would depend on the availability of such blends in the retail fuel system. Nepal does not yet sell ethanol-blended petrol at meaningful scale, so even if India gets a flex-fuel Curvv, local adoption would require policy changes and investments in biofuel blending.

For now, the Curvv.ev remains the only Curvv variant sold in Nepal, and there is no official announcement from Sipradi or Tata Motors about CNG or flex-fuel Curvv imports.

Why Nepali buyers should still watch this

  • Tata’s work on CNG and flex-fuel for the Curvv signals a broader strategy to diversify powertrains in the region.
  • If CNG or ethanol-blended fuels gain momentum in India, it could eventually influence fuel policy and infrastructure decisions in Nepal, especially given our dependence on Indian fuel supplies.
  • Any future expansion of alternative fuels here could make multi-fuel vehicles like the Curvv CNG or flex-fuel variants more viable.

In the short term, Nepali customers considering the Curvv should expect the EV-only offering with a focus on range, safety and features. The Indian tests are important more as a signal of future options than as immediate changes to the Nepali Curvv lineup.
