One-way routes set for Kathmandu–Hetauda vehicle movement

Drivers travelling between Kathmandu and Hetauda now have to follow separate one-way routes depending on direction.

From Tuesday, a new traffic order is in force on this corridor after a sharp rise in vehicle numbers.

Routes for small passenger vehicles

  • Hetauda → Kathmandu: Vehicles with fewer than 14 seats must use the Bhimphedi–Kulekhani–Sisneri–Dakshinkali route.
  • Kathmandu → Hetauda: The same category must follow the Pharping–Phakhel–Kulekhani–Bhimphedi road.

Routes for cargo and large passenger vehicles

  • Hetauda → Kathmandu: Heavy goods vehicles and large buses must use the Tribhuvan Highway.
  • Kathmandu → Hetauda: The return leg for these vehicles is via the Kanti Highway.

Reason for the change

The Prithvi Highway has been closed since Sunday after flooding in the Trishuli River damaged the road at Krishnabhir in Dhading, pushing extra traffic onto the Kathmandu–Hetauda alternatives.

Officials expect the new one-way system to reduce congestion and long queues, helping drivers plan their trips more reliably on these routes.
