Nepal’s two-wheeler market closed the last fiscal year with a strong rebound, as motorcycle and scooter imports climbed to their highest level in four years.
According to customs data, the country imported 277,291 motorcycles and scooters, excluding mopeds, in FY 2025/26, up 30 percent from the previous year. That is the highest annual import volume since FY 2021/22, when Nepal brought in 282,099 units.
What drove the rise
The rise was led mainly by CKD kits for local assembly, which made up 227,834 units or 82.16 percent of total imports. Nepal now assembles two-wheelers from several brands, including Royal Enfield, Bajaj, TVS, Yamaha, Hero, Honda and CFMOTO.
The remaining 49,457 units came in as fully built motorcycles and scooters.
Petrol still dominates, but EVs are growing
Petrol-powered models still make up most of the market. Customs data shows 251,176 petrol two-wheelers were imported during the year, compared with 26,115 electric two-wheelers.
EVs therefore represent a much smaller share of the market. They are, however, now a visible part of Nepal’s import mix as more buyers look at electric commuting options.
Value and revenue
The total import value of motorcycles and scooters reached Rs 36.01 billion in the fiscal year. The government collected Rs 32.97 billion in revenue from these imports.
For buyers, the numbers point to a market that is clearly recovering after a few slower years. The growth in CKD imports also indicates that local assembly will remain an important source of supply for popular commuter and premium two-wheelers in Nepal.
