MG’s Nepali distributor Paramount Motors has put the MG U9 electric pickup on sale, with prices starting at Rs 98.99 lakh ex‑showroom for the MGU9 EV.

In MG’s local range, the U9 sits **above the MG Hector (Rs 64.99 lakh – Rs 78.25 lakh), MG IM6 (Rs 81.99 lakh), MG MGS6 EV (Rs 71.99 lakh) and MG HS (Rs 86 lakh), but still below the MG HS Plug-in Hybrid at Rs 139.99 lakh**. This makes it MG’s most expensive all-electric model on sale in Nepal, yet not the brand’s overall price ceiling.

Meanwhile, Nepal's electric vehicle market has experienced a significant shift following a new government tax policy. The EV tax is now based on the CIF value of the vehicle—Cost, Insurance, and Freight combined—rather than motor power. This change has caused a reshaping of car prices across the market.

Price and variants in Nepal

- **MG U9 EV (MGU9 EV): Rs 98.99 lakh ex‑showroom**

The pickup is offered in Luxury and Flagship trims in Nepal, with the Luxury grade aligned to the Rs 98.99 lakh starting price. The Flagship variant carries a higher sticker, positioned as the fully loaded option for buyers who want maximum comfort and tech.

Battery, motors and performance

The MG U9 is powered by a 102.2 kWh LFP battery pack feeding a dual‑motor four‑wheel‑drive system. The front motor delivers 125 kW, while the rear motor produces 200 kW, for a combined output of 325 kW and 700 Nm of torque.

MG claims the U9 can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 190 km/h, figures that put it in performance SUV territory despite its double‑cab pickup body.

Features and comfort

The MG U9 EV is positioned as a premium lifestyle pickup, with a cabin focused on comfort, technology and practicality. The Flagship trim adds an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with ventilation, massage and memory functions, aimed at buyers who plan to use the vehicle both as a workhorse and a long‑distance tourer.

Impact of new tax rule

Nepal's FY 2083/84 budget introduced a major overhaul in the way electric vehicles are taxed. Instead of calculating customs duty primarily based on motor power (kW), the government has shifted to a value-based taxation system. **EV Nepal has confirmed 20 official price revisions across BMW, BYD, Deepal, Geely, iCAUR, Jaecoo, Leapmotor, Maxus, MG and Suzuki.**

The new tax rule has led to significant price changes for various models. For instance, the **Skywell BE11 has seen a price drop across all its variants, with the 52 kWh version now priced at Rs 65.90 lakh, down from Rs 79.90 lakh. Conversely, luxury models like the BMW iX1** have become more expensive, with its price jumping from Rs 1.9996 crore to Rs 3.2996 crore, an increase of about Rs 1.30 crore. This shift highlights the varying impact of the new tax policy on different segments of the EV market.
