Kia has confirmed that the Sorento strong hybrid for India will feature all-wheel drive (AWD), with the three-row SUV scheduled to be launched there on 4 September 2026. This makes it Kia’s first strong-hybrid SUV and the first ICE-powered Kia with AWD in the Indian market.
In Nepal, the **Kia Sorento hybrid is already on sale at Rs 183.90 lakh – Rs 189.90 lakh across two variants, with the 1.6L GDI HEV 6AT at Rs 189.90 lakh and the 1.6L- GDU HEV 6AT at Rs 183.90 lakh. What India’s AWD Sorento Means For Nepali Buyers
The India-bound Sorento is confirmed with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid powertrain paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, with combined outputs in the roughly 230–241 PS and 380 Nm range, plus AWD for improved traction in rain, snow and light off-road use. India is also expected to get a 2.2-litre diesel engine (around 193 PS, 441 Nm) with an 8-speed automatic, and higher variants are tipped to feature terrain modes like Snow, Mud and Sand.
If Kia continues to source Nepal units from higher-cost origins, current Nepal pricing in the Rs 183.90–189.90 lakh band is likely to hold in the near term. However, once India production of the AWD hybrid ramps up, there is a plausible medium-term scenario where future Sorento batches for Nepal could be supplied from India, potentially opening the door to more variant choice (including AWD diesel) and, over time, some price relief versus today’s levels. None of this has been officially confirmed for Nepal yet.
