Hero MotoCorp is set to invest up to Rs 1,000 crore more in Ather Energy. The move comes as the Bengaluru-based EV company prepares to unveil its first scooter on the new EL platform on August 29 in Bengaluru.[1][3][6]
For Nepali buyers, the development matters because Ather is an India-market brand and Nepal’s scooter market is shaped heavily by Indian launches, pricing and feature sets. Ather scooters are already listed in India at around Rs 1.21 lakh to Rs 1.85 lakh in the current lineup. The upcoming EL-based model is widely reported to target the Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.25 lakh bracket.[11][3][6]

What the investment means
Hero already owns the largest stake in Ather, with a holding of 29.48 percent on a fully diluted basis, according to the report. The latest investment will be made through a preferential allotment of equity shares or equity-linked convertible securities, subject to approvals. It is expected to be completed within about 15 days after the required clearances.

The timing matters because Ather is trying to widen its reach beyond its premium image. The new EL platform is expected to help the company build a more affordable scooter line. That could put pressure on rival electric scooters in India and, later, in Nepal if the model reaches local showrooms through importers.[3][6][7]
Why Nepali buyers should care

If the new Ather scooter lands in Nepal, the biggest impact will likely be on the entry-price segment of premium electric scooters. A lower-priced Ather could push competitors to sharpen range, features and after-sales support. That would matter most in Kathmandu Valley, where EV adoption is growing.
The investment also signals that Ather is still backing its long-term EV expansion despite the capital-heavy nature of battery manufacturing, software and service networks. According to the report, the company has also been working on battery recycling through a partnership with LICO Materials, which supports India’s battery waste rules.
At this stage, Ather has not announced a Nepal launch for the new scooter. Any local availability would depend on regional import decisions and pricing after the India debut.
