Government focus on revenue
FNCCI President Anjan Shrestha said the government views the automobile sector mainly as a source of revenue, not as an essential transport industry. He made the remarks at the opening of **NAIMA Mobility Expo 2026** in Kathmandu.
Shrestha said vehicle numbers in Kathmandu have risen sharply over the past 25 years, but road expansion has not kept pace. He also said the government takes major decisions without enough consultation with automobile businesses.
Public transport and assembly plants
He pointed to the current halt in registration of public transport vehicles. He said every new government tends to bring unusual decisions.
Shrestha also called on automobile businesses to invest in local assembly plants in Nepal. He said **Hyundai** is currently the only four-wheeler brand with an assembly plant in the country.
