BAIC partners with Laxmi Group for Nepal entry

Chinese automotive group BAIC (Beijing Automobile Industry Holding Co. Ltd.) has entered the Nepali market through an official distribution partnership with Laxmi Group, one of Nepal’s established business houses.

According to the announcement, Laxmi Group will import and sell BAIC vehicles in Nepal. It will also provide after-sales service through its existing dealer and service network across the country. Nepali buyers now have access to a new Chinese brand positioned in the mainstream global market.

Who is BAIC?

BAIC started in 1958 as a small automobile factory in Beijing. Over nearly seven decades, it has grown into one of China’s leading automotive groups.

The company is known for: - manufacturing passenger cars, commercial vehicles and new energy vehicles (NEVs), - its role in producing China’s early passenger vehicles and the BJ212 off-road vehicle, and - long-term joint ventures with global brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai, which have strengthened BAIC’s manufacturing capacity and technology.

In China, BAIC focuses on smart mobility and electrification. Its products are sold in dozens of countries worldwide. According to company information, BAIC now has a presence in more than 80 markets.

What it means for Nepali buyers

With BAIC’s entry, Nepali customers are expected to see: - new options in SUVs, passenger cars and commercial vehicles, - technology drawn from BAIC’s work with Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai, and - a wider choice of electric and new energy vehicles over time, in line with Nepal’s growing interest in EVs.

Exact model line-up, specifications and prices for Nepal have not been publicly detailed yet. According to the announcement, Laxmi Group will gradually introduce BAIC models and will use its countrywide network to offer: - vehicle sales, - genuine spare parts, and - authorised service and warranty support.

For buyers, this means BAIC vehicles should be available through familiar Laxmi Group dealers in major cities. Service centres are already in place for routine maintenance and repairs.

Next steps for interested customers

Since BAIC is new to Nepal, potential buyers may want to: - compare upcoming BAIC models with existing Chinese, Indian and Korean brands on features, safety and warranty, - check whether BAIC’s EV or hybrid options qualify for current government tax structures on electric vehicles, and - confirm local availability of parts and service for any specific model they are considering.

Further details on individual BAIC models, variants and pricing in Nepal are expected to be announced by Laxmi Group as launches begin.
