Chery Chairman Yin Tongyue has issued a formal apology following a safety incident in Malaysia where a Chery Omoda 5 lost its rear axle while in motion. The event occurred on October 6 in Johor Bahru, when the vehicle's rear suspension assembly and both wheels separated from the chassis.
Following the incident, Malaysia’s Road Transport Department temporarily suspended the model's vehicle type approval, halting new registrations while a technical investigation proceeds. In response, Chery Auto Malaysia has launched a recall covering 8,878 Omoda 5 vehicles, including both C and H variants. The company is offering free inspections and component replacements for affected units.

Speaking at a conference in Beijing, the Chairman emphasized that the company is prioritizing vehicle quality and customer safety as it expands into international markets. This is the second time the model has faced such issues in the country, following a smaller recall in 2024. Chery has not announced any impact on other markets.
