BYD has showcased a new safety feature for its second-generation Seagull electric hatchback. The manufacturer successfully completed a test where the vehicle maintained stability after a tire blowout at 140 km/h.
During the demonstration, a device punctured the front right tire while the car traveled at 140 km/h. Despite the rapid loss of air pressure, the hatchback remained in its lane and slowed to a controlled stop without requiring steering corrections. This high-speed tire blowout stability system is now standard equipment across all versions of the second-generation model.
The updated Seagull measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. It offers two motor options with 85 kW or 95 kW outputs. Buyers can choose between 30.1 kWh and 39.2 kWh LFP batteries, providing a range between 320 km and 420 km under CLTC standards. The vehicle also features an optional LiDAR-based driving assistance system. In China, the model starts at 65,900 yuan.
