Patent images have surfaced showing a new electric kei car developed for the Japanese market. The vehicle is expected to launch in 2027 under the Emta brand.
This project is managed by Electric Mobility Technologies, a joint venture that includes Chery, Gotion High-Tech, and Japanese retailer Autobacs Seven. Chery provides the vehicle platform and electric drive technology, while Gotion supplies the batteries. The car features a boxy design and will be available in both standard and rugged-styled variants. The rugged version includes plastic cladding and increased ground clearance.
Measuring approximately 3.4 meters in length, the model is designed to meet Japan's specific kei car regulations. While technical specifications remain unconfirmed, the vehicle is expected to compete with other small electric cars like the BYD Racco. Emta has not yet announced official pricing, though it aims to keep costs competitive with gasoline-powered kei cars.
