BYD’s luxury brand Yangwang is developing two new flagship models, a long luxury sedan and a big SUV, aimed directly at the ultra‑premium segment dominated by cars like the Rolls‑Royce Phantom and Cullinan.
New Yangwang flagship sedan
Spy shots from China show a very long‑wheelbase sedan with a classic three‑box shape and upright stance. It uses rear‑hinged “coach” doors on both sides, a layout usually seen only on the most expensive luxury cars.
The test car appears to have large wheels inspired by high‑end limousines and an advanced DiSus‑A air suspension setup from BYD, aimed at giving a very soft, adjustable ride. A pillarless body design and a strong metal roof are expected to free up more cabin space and improve comfort for rear passengers.
Yangwang SUV for extreme conditions
A second Yangwang model, a large SUV, has been seen testing in Turpan, northwest China, in extremely high temperatures. Its side profile is very close to that of a Rolls‑Royce Cullinan, with a tall glasshouse and straight lines. This SUV is said to be tuned to feel more relaxed and easy to drive on normal roads than the hardcore off‑roader Yangwang U8.
On the prototype’s windscreen sits a visible lidar sensor, part of BYD’s God’s Eye / DiPilot 600 advanced driving system. This hardware is meant to support high‑level assisted driving, including lane‑keeping and active safety features.
Powertrains and market position
Both new Yangwang flagships are expected to be offered as plug‑in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric (EV) models. Exact power, battery size and range figures are not yet public. China launch timing and prices are also unconfirmed.
These cars will sit at the very top of BYD’s luxury line‑up and are aimed more at image than volume. Even if sales numbers stay low, they show how far Chinese brands are pushing into the global ultra‑luxury segment.
For Nepali buyers, these Yangwang models are unlikely to reach our market soon, but they hint at the kind of high‑tech suspension, driver‑assist and battery systems that could slowly filter down into more affordable BYD models in future.
