BYD Da Han: massive battery, extreme range
Chinese EV giant BYD has revealed the Da Han (also called Great Han), a flagship full-size sedan for its home market. The all-electric version uses a 102.3 kWh LFP Blade battery weighing about 726 kg, with BYD claiming up to 1,008 km range under CLTC testing.
- Battery & range (EV): 102.3 kWh LFP, about 725.9 kg, claimed 970–1,008 km (RWD) and 820–880 km (AWD) on CLTC
- Power (EV): 370 kW RWD (approx. 496 hp) and 570 kW AWD (approx. 764 hp)
- Size: Length 5,256 mm, width 1,999 mm, wheelbase 3,130 mm — slightly longer than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class
- Indicative China price: about 300,000 yuan, roughly Rs 44–45 lakh at current exchange rates
There will also be a DM-i plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version with a 1.5‑litre turbo petrol engine, 200 kW electric motor, and 54.5 kWh battery offering around 470 km pure-electric range according to Chinese filings.
What it means for Nepal

BYD already sells the Atto 3 in Nepal and has publicly signalled plans to expand its line-up here, including smaller EVs like the Seagull/Atto 1 and an electric MPV.
- BYD’s Nepal partner has confirmed an aggressive EV roadmap, and the Atto 3 with Blade battery is already on sale locally.
- The right-hand-drive Seagull/Atto 1 has been launched in Indonesia, and Nepali media expect a debut around major auto shows, with estimated pricing around Rs 30 lakh.
Although the Da Han itself is a large, expensive luxury sedan, making a near-term official launch in Nepal unlikely due to limited demand and import costs, the model is important for Nepali buyers for two reasons:
- It showcases how far BYD’s Blade battery and long-range tech can go. If the company can package 100+ kWh packs and >800 km claimed range in China, scaled-down versions (60–80 kWh, 500–600 km real‑world) become more realistic for mid-size EVs suitable for Nepal.
- The Da Han’s plug‑in hybrid setup with large 50+ kWh usable battery hints at future long-range PHEVs that could be attractive for Nepal’s intercity travel where fast-charging infrastructure is still developing.
Impact on future prices and choices

For now, Nepali buyers will not see Da Han‑level luxury and range directly, but they are likely to benefit from trickle‑down technology:
- As BYD’s battery energy density and fast-charging improve, upcoming BYD EVs in Nepal could offer longer range at similar or slightly higher prices than today’s Atto 3.
- The Da Han’s positioning around Rs 44–45 lakh in China gives a reference that full-size luxury BYD sedans would cross Rs 1 crore if imported here after duties and margins, keeping them niche.
In short, Da Han is a technology showcase rather than a near-term Nepal launch, but it strengthens the outlook that coming BYD EVs for our market will deliver better range, stronger performance, and larger batteries than the current generation, especially in the Rs 30–60 lakh band popular among Nepali EV buyers.
