High accident risk and safety drive
Police blame the province's high accident risk on rising vehicle numbers, narrow roads, poor compliance with traffic rules, and low awareness among drivers and pedestrians.
The toll from last year alone is grim. Road crashes in the province claimed 250 lives. 1,381 people were seriously injured. 1,162 suffered minor injuries.
Traffic police are now running regular highway checks and awareness programmes across Sudurpaschim. They are urging riders and drivers to stick to speed limits, skip the drink before driving, and carry proper documents on the road.
