NMB Bank brings loan scheme for second-hand EVs
NMB Bank has rolled out a new loan scheme that makes it easier for Nepali buyers to buy used electric vehicles (EVs) for both personal and commercial use.
According to the bank, the ‘Pre-Owned EV Financing’ plan targets customers who want to shift to electric mobility but prefer a more affordable second-hand EV instead of a brand new one.
Who can apply
- Individual buyers looking for a personal electric car
- Business owners or institutions needing electric vehicles for commercial use (such as taxis, company fleets, or logistics)
The scheme currently focuses on four-wheeler electric vehicles already in use within Nepal.
Where and how to get the loan
NMB Bank says the loan application process is simple and customer-friendly.
- Customers can apply from any NMB Bank branch across the country
- Applications can also be submitted through the bank’s digital channels
The bank operates 198 branches, 176 ATMs and 9 extended counters nationwide. That gives buyers in most major towns and cities easy access to the scheme.
Specific loan amounts, interest rates, down payment and tenure have not been publicly detailed. These will likely depend on the vehicle’s age, condition, valuation, and the customer’s income profile. Interested buyers should contact NMB directly for exact figures.
Focus on green banking and EV adoption
NMB Bank says this move is part of its wider push towards green banking and environmentally friendly finance.
By offering loans for pre-owned EVs, the bank aims to:
- Increase the number of electric vehicles on Nepali roads
- Make EVs more accessible for middle-income buyers who find used EVs cheaper than new ones
- Support government and industry efforts to reduce fuel imports and emissions through wider EV adoption
What this means for buyers
For Nepali car buyers, the key point is:
- You can now get bank financing to buy a used electric car, not only new ones
- This may lower the upfront cost of switching from petrol/diesel to electric
- The scheme could also improve the resale value of existing EVs, as more buyers can afford them with bank loans
Anyone considering a second-hand EV should compare:
- Vehicle condition, battery health and remaining warranty
- Total cost of ownership, including loan interest, charging costs and maintenance
With NMB’s Pre-Owned EV Financing now available, the used EV market in Nepal is likely to become more active. Buyers shifting to electric mobility should see more choice and flexibility.
