MG Windsor EV hits 75,000-unit mark in India

JSW MG Motor India has announced that the MG Windsor EV has crossed 75,000 cumulative sales in India in under two years since its market launch in September 2024. According to the company, more than 19,000 units of the Windsor and Windsor Pro were sold in the first half of 2026, showing continued growth in demand.

Pricing and battery-as-a-service

A key reason behind the Windsor EV’s performance is MG’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option. Under this plan in India, buyers pay a lower upfront price for the car and then pay separately for battery usage.

  • Reported starting price with BaaS: about Rs 9.99 lakh (Indian market).
  • Battery rental charge: Rs 3.90 per km, according to MG’s announcement.

For buyers who prefer to own the battery outright, Indian reports say the Windsor EV range is now priced roughly between Rs 14.7 lakh and Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom), with a separate fleet-focused Commute variant around Rs 13.49 lakh. These figures are for India and would differ if the model is introduced in Nepal.

Motor, battery and claimed range

The Windsor EV uses an electric motor rated at 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque. According to MG, the car is offered with two battery pack options:

  • 38 kWh battery with a claimed range of about 332 km on a full charge.
  • 52.9 kWh battery with a claimed range of about 449 km.

These range numbers are company claims based on Indian test conditions and would vary with driving style, temperature, road gradient and load.

Space and features

MG has positioned the Windsor EV as a compact but family-friendly electric car. The company says the vehicle was developed on an "ABC" concept:

  • Pricing comparable to small A-segment city cars.
  • Exterior size closer to B-segment hatchbacks.
  • Cabin space similar to C-segment family cars.

To support this positioning, MG highlights features such as:

  • Aero lounge seats that can recline up to 135 degrees at the rear.
  • A 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
  • Flat floor to improve legroom.
  • Large glass area for better visibility and an airy feel.

These features are aimed at daily urban use and family trips, where cabin comfort matters as much as running cost.

Localisation and future outlook

MG Motor has stated that it is working to raise the share of locally produced components in the Windsor EV to around 70% in India. Higher localisation can lower production costs, which in turn can support more competitive pricing in the future.

For Nepali buyers, the Windsor EV’s sales performance in India is important because it shows strong demand for compact, reasonably priced electric cars with usable real-world range. If MG or other brands bring similar models to Nepal, buyers can expect:

  • Lower running costs than petrol cars.
  • Practical range suitable for everyday city and short intercity use.
  • Cabin space that works for small families.

However, final prices, variants and features for Nepal would depend on local taxes, import duties and any specific configuration chosen for this market.
