Khalti Digital Wallet has brought back its bluebook renewal service for vehicle owners, after a temporary halt due to government moves aimed at controlling middlemen in transport offices.
Service back in Kathmandu Valley
For now, the service is available only inside Kathmandu Valley, covering both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
- Service charge: Rs 250 per vehicle (according to Khalti's announcement).
- Earlier charges were Rs 350 for bikes and Rs 500 for cars, so owners now pay less for the same doorstep support.
This fee is in addition to the government taxes and insurance costs that must be paid for renewal.
How vehicle owners can request the service
Khalti is offering multiple ways to order bluebook renewal, aimed at users who prefer phone, messaging or app-based requests:
- Give a missed call to Khalti's bluebook service number 9712049610.
- Send a WhatsApp message to 9801890083.
- Use the Khalti app and select "Bluebook Renewal" under the "What's New" section.
After a request, a Khalti representative contacts the customer to confirm details and schedule collection.
Doorstep collection and delivery
According to the announcement, Khalti's team:
- Visits the location chosen by the customer to collect the bluebook and required documents.
- Goes to the government transport office to:
- Pay vehicle tax as per the due period.
- Renew insurance if needed.
- Complete formalities and get the official stamp in the bluebook.
- Returns the renewed bluebook to the customer’s home.
Khalti says this full process typically takes around 3–4 working days, depending on office workload.
What this means for Nepali vehicle owners
For riders and drivers in Kathmandu who are busy or unfamiliar with transport office procedures, this service offers:
- Lower service cost (Rs 250) than previous rates.
- No need to stand in queues at transport offices.
- Reduced dependence on informal middlemen, while still getting guided help.
However, buyers outside Kathmandu Valley should note that the service is not yet available beyond the valley. Vehicle owners should still check their tax due dates and insurance expiry carefully, as late renewal can lead to fines or problems during road checks.
For now, this restarted service gives Kathmandu vehicle owners a simpler, app-supported way to keep their bluebooks up to date.
