Hyundai Nepal uses football to connect with young fans
Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt Ltd, the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in Nepal, has backed a new youth football event called the Hyundai Next Gen Cup in Kathmandu. According to the organizers, the one-day tournament for under-16 players was held in partnership with AG10 Academy at Chyasal Stadium in Lalitpur.
The company says the event is part of Hyundai’s global focus on football as an official partner of the FIFA World Cup 2026, and is meant to bring that international association down to the local playing field by supporting young talent.
Eight teams named after Hyundai models
The tournament featured eight teams, each carrying the name of a Hyundai model sold or promoted in global and regional markets:
- Team Venue
- Team Creta Electric
- Team Ioniq
- Team Exter
- Team Kona
- Team Creta
- Team Grand i10 Nios
- Team Palisade
According to the announcement, Team Venue won the competition. Team Creta Electric finished as runner-up after an exciting series of matches.
For Nepali vehicle buyers, these team names mirror Hyundai’s expanding product focus on SUVs and electric vehicles. Not all of these models are on sale in Nepal today. Hyundai Nepal is already active in EVs and compact SUVs, and uses events like this to keep its lineup and future direction visible to young fans and families.
Focus on youth development and community
Laxmi Intercontinental states that the Next Gen Cup was designed to give boys and girls under 16 a more structured, competitive environment to:
- test and show their skills
- learn from organized match play
- build confidence
- strengthen their long-term commitment to the sport
Through its partnership with AG10 Academy, Hyundai Nepal says it wants to make a lasting contribution to grassroots football and youth development, beyond just selling cars.
Former Nepal national team captain and AG10 Academy director Anil Gurung, quoted in the announcement, said Nepal has no shortage of football talent and that tournaments like the Next Gen Cup help young players dream bigger and believe they can reach professional level.
Brand vision tied to FIFA World Cup 2026
Globally, Hyundai Motor Group has extended its partnership with FIFA through 2030, including the FIFA World Cup 2026. According to Hyundai, its brand theme “Next Starts Now” is intended to connect with the next generation of football fans and players.
Hyundai Nepal describes the Next Gen Cup as a local expression of this vision, using youth sport, community engagement and grassroots initiatives as a way for an automotive brand to play a more visible social role while keeping Hyundai’s name in front of future car buyers and their families.
The company has indicated it will continue similar activities, linking its presence in Nepal’s auto market with wider community and sports development programs.
