Geely’s small electric hatchback Xingyuan, which will come to Nepal as the Geely EX2 and Proton Emas Five, has crossed 8 lakh cumulative sales in China in less than two years, according to Geely’s Galaxy sub‑brand. The model has been China’s best‑selling car across all segments in 2025 and the first half of 2026.

What this means for Nepal

Nepali importers already list the EX2/Emas Five among the EVs expected to enter the market in 2026, positioned as an affordable city hatchback. With China production now above 8 lakh units and localized manufacturing already underway in Brazil, Geely is clearly treating this as a global mass‑market product. That scale usually translates into lower factory costs and more stable spare‑parts supply, both important for Nepali buyers.

Sector analysts in Nepal expect the EX2 to be priced against smaller Chinese and Indian EVs such as the Tata Tiago EV and BYD Dolphin. Based on the latest limited‑time price in China of 61,800 yuan for the updated Xingyuan (around Rs 11–12 lakh before taxes and logistics), Nepali landing prices after customs, VAT and dealer margins could still be competitive with existing compact EVs. Exact Nepali pricing will depend on battery size, equipment level and any future changes in EV tax policy.

Specs that matter in Nepali conditions

The updated Xingyuan/EX2 uses CATL battery packs and offers three claimed range options under China’s CLTC cycle: about 310 km, 410 km and 480 km per charge. Real‑world range in Nepal will be lower due to hills, colder weather in many regions and heavier loads, but even the mid‑range variant should comfortably cover daily city use and inter‑city runs like Kathmandu–Pokhara with one charging stop.

Earlier reporting for the Nepal market suggests two LFP battery options around 30 kWh and 40 kWh paired with roughly 58 kW and 85 kW motors. That puts performance in the same ballpark as existing compact EVs already on Nepali roads, while LFP chemistry is known for durability and resistance to battery degradation — a plus for buyers planning to keep the car for many years.

Possible impact on EV prices and competition

Because Xingyuan has become a volume leader in China, Geely is under pressure to keep it attractive against rivals like BYD Seagull and Dolphin. Price cuts there often ripple into export markets over time. If Geely follows a similar strategy for Nepal, the EX2/Emas Five could:

  • put downward pressure on prices of other entry‑level EVs;
  • accelerate the shift from small petrol hatchbacks to EVs in urban areas;
  • widen choices for first‑time EV buyers who previously found larger SUVs too expensive.

For Nepali consumers, the key questions now are when the EX2/Emas Five will officially launch and what variants will be offered. But Xingyuan’s sales success in China suggests that when it does arrive, it will come as a proven, high‑volume product rather than a niche experiment.
