Ather Energy is preparing to step into a more affordable segment with a new electric scooter that will be shown at the company’s Community Day event on August 29, according to the announcement. The model is expected to be the brand’s first scooter built on the new EL platform. It is being aimed at buyers who want more range and useful features at a lower price.

The upcoming scooter has already been spotted in testing and is being developed under the internal code name EL01. Based on the announcement and early reports, Ather wants this model to reach beyond premium EV buyers and move closer to the family scooter market.

According to the announcement, the new scooter will use a completely new platform that supports battery packs from 2 kWh to 5 kWh. It is also expected to get a longer wheelbase and a wider seat than the Ather 450X series. That should make it more comfortable for daily commuting and family use.
The scooter is also said to use an electric motor mounted on the swingarm. For ride comfort, the setup is expected to include telescopic front forks and a single rear shock absorber.
