Premium EV scooters set new price benchmark
According to recent announcements from India, Yamaha and TVS have introduced two new premium electric scooters – Yamaha Aerox E and TVS X – that are priced higher than Royal Enfield’s Bullet 350 and Classic 350 motorcycles. These are India launches, but the specifications give Nepali buyers an idea of what high-end EV scooters from these brands might look like if or when they come to Nepal.
In India, the Aerox E is priced at around Rs 2.81 lakh (INR), while the TVS X comes at about Rs 2.66 lakh (INR), both ex-showroom, according to the announcement. Converted roughly, these are significantly higher than many 125–150 cc petrol scooters sold in Nepal, and even higher than some entry-level motorcycles.
Yamaha Aerox E: maxi-style electric scooter
The Aerox E is described as a premium maxi-style electric scooter. It uses a 3 kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 117 km per full charge. The electric motor is rated at about 9.4 kW, with a stated top speed of 96 km/h. The battery reportedly takes a little over 6 hours to charge fully on standard charging.
Key features mentioned for Aerox E include: - Boost mode and reverse mode - Removable battery - Three riding modes: Eco, Standard and Power - 5-inch TFT colour display with Bluetooth connectivity - Keyless smart system - Single-channel ABS and traction control - Kerb weight around 139 kg
For context, the petrol Yamaha Aerox 155 currently sold in Nepal is a 155 cc maxi scooter priced around Rs 4.75–5.00 lakh and uses a liquid-cooled engine with single-channel ABS and advanced connectivity features. This shows Yamaha’s focus on the Aerox line as a premium product in our market as well.
TVS X: performance-focused electric scooter
The TVS X is positioned as a performance-oriented electric scooter. It uses a 4.44 kWh battery pack and TVS claims a range of up to 159 km per charge. The motor is rated at 11 kW, with a top speed of around 105 km/h, and the scooter is said to accelerate from 0–60 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Notable features on TVS X include: - Three riding modes: XStealth, Xtride and Xonic - 10.25-inch tilt touchscreen infotainment system - Built-in navigation and music control - Cornering lights - Single-channel ABS with disc brakes on both wheels - Split seat and motorcycle-style delta frame
What it means for Nepali buyers
These two scooters have not been launched in Nepal yet; all prices and specs above are for the Indian market and based on official claims in that market. However, they indicate the direction premium EV scooters from major brands might take:
- Higher prices than many petrol scooters and entry-level bikes, due to large battery packs and advanced electronics.
- Strong performance comparable to 150–200 cc petrol scooters, with highway-capable speeds.
- Rich feature sets: TFT displays, connectivity, multiple ride modes, and advanced braking and traction systems.
If Yamaha or TVS bring similar electric models to Nepal in future, buyers can expect prices in the upper Rs 4–6 lakh range, depending on battery size, local taxes and dealer pricing, along with features and performance broadly similar to what is offered in India.
