Police and local administration in Kanchanpur have stepped up action against electric scooters brought into Nepal without paying customs duty or completing registration.
In the past month alone, authorities seized 12 electric scooters and handed them over to the customs office for further legal process.
Customs officials said the scooters will be processed under the law and later auctioned if the procedure is completed. Police said the move is meant to reduce the safety risk from scooters running on the road without proper records.
Kanchanpur is a border district. Officials say the flow of imported electric scooters from the Indian side has made enforcement more difficult.
They are now discussing ways to bring such vehicles into the registration system and stop new illegal entries.
