Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700: 1,100 hp off-road hybrid SUV hints at future for Nepal’s big 4x4s

Geely’s Galaxy sub-brand has taken a major step toward launching its first hardcore off-road SUV, the Galaxy Cruiser 700, after the model appeared in China’s latest regulatory filing list.

What is the Galaxy Cruiser 700?

According to filings in China, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 is a large plug-in hybrid off-road SUV over 5 metres long, built on a body-on-frame chassis and positioned against vehicles like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol.

Key technical highlights include:

  • Plug-in hybrid powertrain with petrol engine and three electric motors, delivering around 830 kW (about 1,113 hp).
  • Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack of about 47 kWh in the homologated versions, providing 165–185 km pure-electric range.
  • 2.0-litre turbo high-power variant with up to 220 km/h top speed; 1.5-litre turbo lower-power variants with 200 km/h top speed.
  • Claimed wading depth of 800 mm, off-road differential locks and advanced driver-assistance features supported by a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.

While some media and YouTube reports mention a future 70 kWh battery and up to 350 km EV range, these figures are based on early estimates and concept information, not yet confirmed in official production specs.

Launch timeline and price expectations

Chinese reports and specialist outlets suggest Geely is targeting domestic China sales from late 2026, with exports to markets such as the Middle East from around 2027.

Price guidance from foreign market analyses put the starting price in China in the range of Rs 75–100 lakh equivalent (roughly 450,000–600,000 yuan when converted to NPR), depending on final configuration and taxes. Exact pricing is still indicative and not officially announced.

Nepal angle: will it come here?

Geely does not yet sell the Galaxy sub-brand officially in Nepal, and the Cruiser 700 is a niche, high-powered flagship aimed first at China and a few large international markets. Given its size, price and technology, a formal Nepal launch in the near term is unlikely.

However, the model has indirect relevance for Nepali buyers:

  • It shows where Chinese off-road SUVs are headed: very high power, long EV-only range and serious off-road hardware.
  • Future, more affordable Geely or other Chinese PHEV SUVs imported to Nepal could borrow technology from the Cruiser 700, such as long electric range with LFP batteries and advanced driver-assistance systems.
  • If a few units do arrive via individual imports, they would sit in the ultra-premium segment, likely well above Rs 1 crore on-road, competing with high-end diesel 4x4s from Toyota, Land Rover and Nissan.

For now, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 is mainly a signpost: Chinese brands are rapidly combining off-road capability with electrification, a trend that could reshape Nepal’s large SUV market over the next decade as EV and hybrid infrastructure improves.
