BP Highway: Passenger and Cargo Vehicles Get Separate Timings
The District Administration Office, Sindhuli has fixed separate operating hours for passenger and cargo vehicles on the BP Highway. The move aims to control heavy traffic and cut down on accidents.
Under the new schedule, private and public passenger vehicles can run from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm. Cargo and goods vehicles get the night slot instead, 7:00 pm to 5:00 am. This keeps the daytime hours clearer for passenger traffic.
Weight Limit for Cargo Vehicles
Heavy cargo vehicles carrying more than 10 tons are now banned from the route. Officials say this will protect the road surface and improve safety. Any vehicle crossing this weight limit won't be allowed on the highway at all.
Why the Rules Changed Now
Traffic on the BP Highway has risen sharply since a major flood hit Bhotekoshi on 26 August, disrupting the Prithvi Highway. Many vehicles shifted to this shorter Kathmandu–eastern Terai route as a result. The revised timetable is meant to keep traffic moving on the busy road while lowering the risk of crashes.
